Whilst trimming the sails on his Ocean Fifty Leyton during the start phase of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe today, Sam Goodchild suffered injuries to his arms and face.

A technical issue led to kickback when winching, resulting in the winch pedestal handles brutally slamming into Sam. He was evacuated from the boat and taken to the hospital by the doctors. He has been able to see his loved ones.

It is with deep regret that he has been forced to retire from the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe.
