Sam Goodchild back out on the racetrack in The Ocean Race!

“Better never stops” is a motto which epitomises the mindset of Sam, who is constantly seeking to raise his game by snapping up every opportunity that comes his way in order to progress.

In this case, during a relatively calm winter period where the boats are enjoying being pampered in the yard, Sam will get another opportunity to perform.

Indeed, on 15 January 2023, he’ll take the start of The Ocean Race, one of the most intense offshore races on the sailing planet, where he’ll be among the top sailors battling it out in IMOCA in crewed configuration on what will be a 9-leg sprint around the globe.

Contacted by the French skipper, Kevin Escoffier, he’ll be part of the Holcim-PRB squad for a few legs.

Participation in this race is an extraordinary challenge and an incredible opportunity to rack up experience for Sam, who ultimately has his sights on the Vendée Globe alongside Leyton.

This race will also be the perfect occasion for Sam to get back into competition mode after the incident in the Route du Rhum: “I’ve put in a lot of work to get myself back to the peak of fitness physically and mentally so I can quickly get back out on the racetrack again. I’ve put things into perspective and now I’m setting my sights on the future with Leyton. Make way for sport!
