State & Local Tax

Companies operating multistate businesses face a number of challenges in determining which states and which state tax types they are subject to across the U.S. This course will provide an overview of what nexus now means for both state income and state sales and use tax. It also reviews common pitfalls that CPAs should be aware of when working with their clients to determine where and when to file.

Agenda

  • Differentiate between physical and economic nexus following the 2018 U.S. Supreme Court Wayfair decision
  • Evaluate considerations regarding business income tax nexus by entity type (C-corporation, multimember LLCs, etc.)
  • Identify sales and use tax nexus for multistate companies
  • Determine the best practices for maintaining an accurate tax filing footprint
