On March 11, 2024, the Arizona Department of Revenue announced updated procedures for refunding over $85 million collected from an invalid sales tax imposed by Pinal County between April 2018 and March 2022. This move follows the Arizona Supreme Court’s ruling, invalidating the tax.
Businesses that paid this now-invalid tax are entitled to refunds and have until April 9, 2026, to file their claims. The Department of Revenue began collecting this tax in April 2018 but ceased collection in March 2022 after the court’s decision, which determined the tax was not allowed under state law. The collected funds have been held in an escrow account and have accumulated interest.
Any business that collected or paid sales tax (“TPT Tax”) in Pinal County is eligible to claim a refund. If you think you might be eligible, contact our experts to schedule a consultation. After reviewing your Arizona TPT tax returns, we can provide an estimate of the refund amount you may be entitled to receive.
