In January 2023, the Finnish government introduced two new R&D tax incentive schemes to boost research and development activities among Finnish companies. This move aims to offer a tax deduction for R&D projects to all companies, showing the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and encouraging companies to utilize this scheme for their benefit.
Established in 2021, Finland introduced an R&D incentive offering a 50% deduction on subcontracting costs, which has been increased to 150% for costs incurred from 2022 to 2027, with a yearly cap of 500,000 euros.
In 2023, Finland introduced a tax incentive allowing a 50% deduction on R&D wages and purchased services, ranging from 5,000 to 500,000 euros, to support research and development activities.
The deduction is 45% on the increase in R&D wages and purchased services from the previous year, with a maximum limit of 500,000 euros to encourage growth in research and development investments.
Companies can qualify for a yearly deduction of up to 1.5 million euros on R&D activities as defined by the OECD Frascati Manual. This includes fundamental and applied research, development work, and feasibility studies, supporting a broad range of innovative efforts.
