Experimental Development

The Walloon Region offers grants to support you in this research The “Experimental Development” projects, supported by the Research and Technological Development Department, are aiming at innovative companies with an operating headquarter in Wallonia that have innovative ideas but still have many challenges to overcome in order to effectively bring innovation to the market. If you still need to develop new technology, improve your process or your service, or go through a prototype or pilot phase, the Walloon Region will offer you support through a recoverable advance. When the project is carried out alone, the amount of the recoverable advance is between 35% and 55%. How much the Region will contribute depends on the size of your company. If a project is being carried out through an effective partnership, the contribution may be increased.

Industrial Research

Through the Department of Research and Technology Development, the Walloon Region supports companies that carry out “Industrial Research” projects by offering them subsidies. Such projects are those which involve cutting-edge research that carries an inherently high risk, which, over time, can lead to a revolutionary innovation. It therefore relates to the acquisition of fundamental knowledge in a certain field without any application being necessarily envisaged in the immediate future. The amount of the subsidy is between 30 and 70% and depends on the size of your company and the partnerships contemplated.

Process and/or Organisational Innovation This subsidy, proposed by the Department of Research and Technology Development, is aimed at SMEs seeking to reconsider the organisation of their human resources or to set up innovative processes. Process innovation concerns the implementation of production or distribution operations within the company in order to increase the added value produced by the company. This process must, within the company’s sector of activity, represent a new approach or significantly improve the state of the art in the field. Organisational innovation concerns the implementation of human resources management in relation to the workplace and the company’s internal and external actors, which must be considered new or significantly better than the state of the art in the sector. This organisational innovation will often involve the use of information and communication technologies. In practice, this subsidy covers 50% of the project budget for SMEs. Non-autonomous businesses can be supported by up to 15%.
