CanExport SME Program

Note: Agriculture and oil and gas sectors are no longer eligible, while defense and dual-use technology projects are increasingly emphasized.

Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP)

  • Funding Amount: Up to $600,000 for R&D and up to $15,000 for partnership development.
  • The Goal: CIIP helps Canadian SMEs partner with international firms to commercialize new technologies. It covers up to 50% of eligible project costs to foster global commercialization.
  • Who should apply: Canadian-based SMEs looking to co-develop or commercialize technology with international partners.

Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC)

  • Funding Amount: Up to 15% of project costs, including interest-free loans up to $5M.
  • The Goal: This Ontario-based stream supports SMEs in investing in capital equipment and skills development. It focuses on boosting competitiveness and creating high-quality jobs.
  • Who should apply: Advanced manufacturing companies in Ontario focused on technology adoption and upskilling.

Growing Greenhouses Program

  • Funding Amount: Up to $4M per applicant in non-repayable funding.
  • The Goal: This initiative helps Alberta’s greenhouse sector expand capacity and improve efficiency. It aims to increase year-round food production through modernization.
  • Who should apply: Greenhouse and controlled-environment agriculture businesses in Alberta looking to modernize operations.

Space Technology Development Program (STDP)

  • Funding Amount: Up to $1M in non-repayable funding per project.
  • The Goal: The STDP supports the development of pre-commercial space technologies with near-term commercial potential. It helps organizations increase technology readiness levels.
  • Who should apply: For-profit and non-profit Canadian organizations developing advanced space R&D.
