Why become energy efficient?
Energy efficiency is a concept that aims at reducing the amount of energy needed in mobility, lighting, heating, and cooling to deliver services. Lowering the cost of energy services frees up resources for businesses and governments.
Why was the Industrial Energy Efficiency Program created?
Ontario leads the country in managing electricity demand to reduce peaks—the province has the ability to save almost 80% of peak power demands.
However, the province’s new electricity saving goals are still below historic performance (from 2017 and 2018), and the province’s natural gas targets fall short of their cost-effectiveness potential. Saving energy prevents supply shortages and insulates against future price increases, which is why Ontario should maximize all energy efficiency opportunities available. The Industrial Energy Efficiency Program aims to improve industrial processes and implement system optimization projects in Ontario. The program supports large, complex industrial energy-efficiency projects using proven commercial technologies to lower energy consumption and reduce electricity bills.
Funding Available:
Up to $5 million for each large, complex industrial energy-efficiency project accepted into the program. This is a two stages application with a different timeframe every year.
Eligibility
- Owners and/or operators of an industrial facility located in Ontario
- Third-party applicants with the authority to implement a project at an industrial facility located in Ontario.
Eligibile Projects
- will deliver electricity savings using proven commercial technologies to lower energy consumption and reduce electricity bills.
- Projects must propose a minimum electricity savings of 2,000 MWh per year (which must represent a reduction of at least 15 percent of the baseline electricity use of the relevant industrial process)
- Use technology that is commercially available and not excluded by the program eligibility rules.
