{"id":13604,"date":"2026-08-13T10:31:40","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T08:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leyton.com\/uk\/?post_type=news&#038;p=13604"},"modified":"2026-08-13T10:31:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T08:31:40","slug":"leyton-uk-partners-with-primary-engineer","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/leyton.com\/uk\/news\/leyton-uk-partners-with-primary-engineer\/","title":{"rendered":"Leyton UK partners with Primary Engineer"},"content":{"rendered":"<section id=\"ori-list_block\" class=\"ori-list full-w \"><div class=\" ori-list_only\">\n    <div class=\"ori-container\">\n        <div class=\"ori-row\">\n            <div class=\"list-content\">\n                                    <h2 class=\"list-title\">Leyton UK partners with Primary Engineer to inspire young people to consider careers in science and engineering<\/h2>\n                                <ul>\n                    <li>Leyton UK is now a regional partner of Primary Engineer, a not-for-profit that brings engineering into classrooms across the UK.<\/li><li>Leyton&#8217;s funding supports the Scotland region of a national engineering competition for schools.<\/li><li>Employees will volunteer their time to grade and judge the entries and celebrate pupils at the regional awards ceremony.<\/li><li>The competition reached over 70,000 pupils across the UK last year, between the ages of 3-19 years.<\/li>                <\/ul>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-inspiring-the-next-generation-of-engineers-through-a-stem-competition\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inspiring the next generation of engineers through a STEM competition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leyton UK is delighted to announce that we\u2019re joining Primary Engineer as a regional partner, helping to fund the Scotland region of its UK-wide competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The competition is called \u2018If You Were an Engineer, What Would You Do?\u00ae\u2019, and asks schoolchildren to interview engineering and technology professionals, identify a problem in the world, and design an innovative solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All pupils who take part receive a named and graded certificate, and shortlisted entries are celebrated at regional award ceremonies around the UK. Winning and highly commended designs can even be selected to be built as fully functioning prototypes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-how-leyton-are-getting-involved\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Leyton are getting involved<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past two years, Leyton employees Dr Glenn Craib, Consulting Operations Director, and Dr Jessica McGlynn, Consulting Manager, have participated in the final judging of <em>If You Were an Engineer, What Would You Do?\u00ae<\/em> Now, as a partner, we&#8217;re helping to fund the competition in Scotland and giving our people the chance to volunteer and get involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Glenn Craib and Dr Jessica McGlynn will grade and judge entries and join the celebration at the regional awards ceremony.&nbsp;For our team, it&#8217;s a chance to share their passion for STEM with the young people who&#8217;ll shape the future of innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Gillian Cole, Director of HR<\/strong> at Leyton, said: \u201cWe\u2019re incredibly proud to partner with Primary Engineer to help inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt Leyton, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and this partnership provides a fantastic opportunity for our colleagues to share their knowledge, passion and experience with young people, while giving back to our local community and helping to shape the innovators of tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dr Glenn Craib,<\/strong> added: \u201cIt\u2019s fantastic that Leyton is now involved in such a fun, inspiring competition. We need to engage children with STEM at an early age if we want more engineers and innovators entering the workforce. After all, the companies we work with every day rely on engineering to solve real problems and grow their businesses.<br><br>\u201cPrimary Engineer\u2019s competition is brilliant, because it mixes introducing real engineers to schoolchildren with getting them curious and creative by doing their own engineering and problem-solving.
