For businesses\u2014especially those struggling with high energy costs\u2014this strategy brings some real opportunities and much-needed relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cutting Energy Costs for Industry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the biggest challenges for UK businesses, particularly energy-intensive industries, has been rising energy bills. So, what\u2019s been announced?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme<\/strong> aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-leyton-orion-block-list list-block undefined\"><div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col\"><ul><li><strong>Reduce electricity costs by up to 25%<\/strong> for over 7,000 energy-intensive firms across the UK by removing green levies from industrial electricity bills and aligning the UK emissions trading system with the EU\u2019s.<\/li><li><strong>Increase network-charge discounts from 60% to 90% starting in 2026.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These measures should bring welcome relief, especially for large energy users, in what remains a very volatile market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the devil\u2019s in the details \u2014 and right now, those details are still missing. The exact path to achieve these savings hasn\u2019t been fully mapped out yet. There\u2019s likely to be a consultation period throughout the rest of 2025, with an official announcement on how businesses can access these savings expected in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s still unclear whether the savings will be automatic or if businesses will need to claim them. Since energy suppliers ultimately handle billing, it remains to be seen how easy or tricky it will be to prove eligibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My advice? Watch this space\u2014but don\u2019t count on receiving much benefit until 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Grant and Funding Opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside cutting energy costs, the Industrial Strategy introduces major new grant funds to help businesses invest in clean energy and modernize their operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the key highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-leyton-orion-block-list list-block undefined\"><div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col\"><ul><li>A <strong>\u00a31 billion Clean Energy Supply Chain Fund<\/strong>, designed to support UK manufacturers and supply chains involved in clean energy sectors like offshore wind, hydrogen, and carbon capture.<\/li><li>This fund is open to <strong>individual UK businesses<\/strong>, offering grants to help build and expand clean energy manufacturing capacity.<\/li><li>Additional funding, such as <strong>\u00a3700 million for Great British Energy<\/strong>, will support large-scale clean energy projects and infrastructure.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Businesses can expect grant rounds and application windows to open in the coming months, offering valuable opportunities to secure funding for energy-efficient upgrades, new technology, and growth projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So, What Should Businesses Do Now?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-leyton-orion-block-list list-block undefined\"><div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col\"><ul><li><strong>Prepare for the British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme:<\/strong> Energy-intensive businesses should keep an eye out for announcements from the government.
