Breaking Free Of Light Winds

After starting off Le Havre early Sunday afternoon on the Transat Jacques Vabre race to Martinique, Leyton’s duo Sam Goodchild and Aymeric Chapellier were negotiating light winds and the strong currents of the Chenal de Four early this morning , part of a testing passage past Ushant on the north west corner of Brittany. They are fighting to regain a few miles lost to the leaders during last night’s exit out the Channel.
A wide ridge of high pressure which stands between the 78 boat race fleet and the open Atlantic’s stronger winds is proving something of a slow motion hurdle to be cleared. Leyton was fifth in the seven strong Ocean Fifty fleet at 7am UTC (London) this morning. Since around 3am this morning, the duo have been trying to get into a routine to ensure they remain rested for the testing Monday which may require some strategic choices to be made which.
