Sam Goodchild and Antoine Koch, the high-profile underdogs of this Transat Jacques Vabre, day after day, confidently display ambitions that are on the rise.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The duel between the two Sams, against the other notable figure, the British crown’s Samantha Davies (Initiative Coeur), which has been intensifying throughout the week, propelled FOR THE PLANET this morning, well positioned downwind of its direct opponent, to the 4th place in the provisional overall standings, only about thirty miles behind one of the favorites of the race, Charal with the Beyou-Cammas duo. A performance worth highlighting for the defending champion boat, launched in 2019 under the name LinkedOut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quietly and as modest as they are talented, Sam and Antoine seem to suffer no comparison with the more recent designs accompanying them on this extended version of the Transat, with this southbound trajectory that has already seen them cover, on the 9th day of the race, over 3,000 miles at an average speed of over 16 knots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In comparison, the former leaders Mettraux – Villion, on the northern route, have covered \u00ab\u00a0only\u00a0\u00bb 2,500 miles at an average speed of 13.6 knots. Similar to what their stablemates Thomas Ruyant and Morgan Lagravi\u00e8re (FOR PEOPLE), the new leaders, achieve with less than 100 miles to the west, Sam and Antoine successfully combine positioning and speed, the recipe for success in this multi-boat race, at the highest level of performance of the latest generation IMOCAs. Their Transat Jacques Vabre lives up to all its promises of close racing, at a level of rare performance, giving the event the intensity and flair characteristic of offshore racing<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Their euphoria is contagious. Their disconcerting mastery.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a time when many observers confidently predict the (wide!) victory of the now solely held Northern option by IMOCA Teamwork.net, Thomas Ruyant and Morgan Lagravi\u00e8re indulge, intoxicate themselves with speed, wind, sea, and spray, in extreme navigation, in immediate contact with tenacious opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And their route choice, decided early in the race, heading south in search of regular and well-established downwind winds between the Canary Islands and Cape Verde, is paying off! Since this decisive change of tack and course last Sunday, near the coasts of Western Sahara, FOR PEOPLE and other contenders like Charal (Beyou-Cammas), Paprec Arkea (Richomme – Eli\u00e8s), Initiatives Coeur (Davies – Bouttrell), and others have continuously demonstrated the power and efficiency of their new designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a perfectly arranged sea, at 110 and some degrees of a moderate trade wind, they make waves, covering over 400 miles every 24 hours at speeds ranging between 17 and 19 knots. In the middle of last night, on the 9th day of the Transat Jacques Vabre, they took the lead. A specificity of the exercise is the quest for the right angle and the opportune moment to trigger the jibe from one tack to another, progressing from one more or less close-reaching tack to the other towards the distant Martinique, approximately 1,600 miles away this morning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Le duel des deux Sam,  face \u00e0 l\u2019autre sujet, f\u00e9minin celui l\u00e0 de la couronne Britannique Samantha Davies (Initiative Coeur), qui n\u2019a de toute la semaine cess\u00e9 de monter en intensit\u00e9, a port\u00e9 ce matin FOR THE PLANET, bien cal\u00e9 sous le vent de son adversaire direct, \u00e0 la 4\u00e8me place du classement g\u00e9n\u00e9ral provisoire, \u00e0 une trentaine de milles seulement de l\u2019un des favoris de l\u2018\u00e9preuve, Charal au duo Beyou-Cammas. Une performance qui m\u00e9rite d\u2019\u00eatre soulign\u00e9e pour le bateau tenant du titre, lanc\u00e9 en 2019 sous le nom de LinkedOut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sans faire de bruit, aussi modestes que talentueux, Sam et Antoine semblent ne souffrir d\u2019aucune comparaison avec les plans plus r\u00e9cents qui les accompagnent sur cette version rallong\u00e9e de la Transat, avec cette trajectoire plein Sud, qui les a vu parcourir d\u00e9j\u00e0, au 9\u00e8me jour de course, plus de 3 000 milles \u00e0 plus de 16 noeuds de moyenne. Par comparaison, les ex leaders Mettraux – Villion , sur la route Nord, n\u2019en ont parcouru \u00ab que \u00bb 2 500, \u00e0 13,6 nds de moyenne. A l\u2019instar de ce qu\u2019accomplissent moins de 100 milles dans leur Ouest leurs camarades d\u2019\u00e9curie Thomas Ruyant et Morgan Lagravi\u00e8re (FOR PEOPLE), nouveaux leaders, Sam et Antoine parviennent \u00e0 conjuguer avec bonheur placement et vitesse, la recette pour s\u2019imposer dans cette lutte \u00e0 plusieurs bateaux, au plus haut des performances des IMOCAs derni\u00e8res g\u00e9n\u00e9rations.

Sp\u00e9cificit\u00e9 de l\u2019exercice, la qu\u00eate du bon angle et du moment propice pour d\u00e9clencher l\u2019empannage d\u2019une amure \u00e0 l\u2019autre, et progresser ainsi, d\u2019un bord plus ou moins rapprochant \u00e0 l\u2019autre, vers les Antilles et la Martinique distante ce matin d\u2019environ 1 600 milles. Un art parfaitement maitris\u00e9 par le duo de FOR PEOPLE et ses adversaires directs, d\u00e9sormais \u00e0 la lutte pour la victoire finale.
