The ZIM program is suspended!

By Salma Tarek

The funding requirements of the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM) have increased significantly in recent months. In view of limited available funds and significantly extended processing times, control measures must be taken in accordance with Article 1.2 of the ZIM Guidelines. Therefore, since October 7, 2021, no more funding applications have been accepted temporarily (application stop), this also applies to the project outline.

This measure has no effect on the processing of applications submitted or submitted on time and the disbursement of approved projects. Applications with international partners in bilateral and multilateral calls with other countries (expected to take longer to process) and applications for market introduction services are not covered by the application freeze. During the implementation of this measure, the application of the deadline to apply for funding for the second phase of the Innovation Network has been temporarily suspended.

All applications submitted after 8:00 p.m. on October 7, 2021 will not be considered or evaluated. Applicants will be notified. Decisions to reopen applications must be based on available funding in 2022 and subsequent years, which will be determined in the 2022 federal budget.

Medium-sized companies must now resort to other funding, such as the tax research allowance. The Research Allowance Act (FZulG), which came into force on January 01, 2020, is open to German companies of all sizes regardless of their respective profit situation.
