Attractiveness of the ZIM program for SMEs remains unbroken in 2020

In 2020, a new ZIM guideline was published with new funding conditions (including higher funding rates of up to 60%, eligible costs of up to €550,000 depending on project type and company size). Current figures from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) already show the first effects of the new guideline and that the ZIM program remains an important basis for funding risky and innovative R&D projects even during the Corona pandemic.

As a result, over €920 million in funding has already been approved as of 2020. Compared with the predecessor directive, which provided an average of around €540 million per year, this is a significant increase. Cooperation projects continue to be the most common project type in the ZIM-Programm, , accounting for over 80% of approved projects. The cross-industry relevance and attractiveness of the ZIM program is illustrated by the fact that more than 20 sectors benefit from this funding instrument.
