{"id":1831,"date":"2022-10-04T08:08:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-04T08:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leyton.majjane.agency\/ca\/post\/energy-innovation-program-carbon-capture-utilization-and-storage-rdd-call-2\/"},"modified":"2026-07-26T17:02:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T15:02:43","slug":"energy-innovation-program-carbon-capture-utilization-and-storage-rdd-call-2","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/insights\/articles\/energy-innovation-program-carbon-capture-utilization-and-storage-rdd-call-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy Innovation Program &#8211; Carbon capture, utilization, and storage RD&#038;D Call"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of its plan to support green innovation, the Government of Canada is proposing a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/government-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new grant<\/a><\/strong>, the <strong>Energy Innovation Program<\/strong>, to address the treatment of <strong>carbon emissions<\/strong> within the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/sustainability-invest-in-your-clean-technology-projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">energy sector<\/a> <\/strong>industries, <strong>$319 million<\/strong> are provided over <strong>seven years<\/strong> to support <strong>research, development,<\/strong> and <strong>commercial viability<\/strong> of <strong>carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies<\/strong>. The <strong>carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CUSC)<\/strong> program will provide innovative solutions toward <strong>emissions reductions<\/strong> when neither electrification nor low-carbon fuels are able to provide technically or economically feasible <strong>low-carbon solutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>Natural Resources Canada\u2019s program will provide non repayable contribution for both <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/sred-already-claiming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">R&amp;D<\/a><\/strong> and <strong>demonstration costs<\/strong> over a period of up to <strong>5 years<\/strong>. For <strong>R&amp;D<\/strong> oriented projects the program contribution goes from <strong>$500,000<\/strong> to <strong>$2,500,000<\/strong>. And for demonstration projects the program contribution goes from <strong>$1,000,000<\/strong> to <strong>$5,000,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><u>Who is eligible?<\/u><\/h2>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>Are eligible for the <strong>CCUS RD&amp;D Capture focus area<\/strong>, companies and organizations validly incorporated or registered in Canada, whether for-profit or not-for-profit.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>The program concerns organizations such as electricity and gas utilities, electricity system operators, transmission owners and operators, companies, industry associations, research associations, and standards organizations.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>More specifically, the <strong>CCUS RD&amp;D Capture focus area<\/strong> is open to the following <strong>eligible projects<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>CO2 capture process development<\/li>\n<li>Materials development and CO2 capture chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Membrane-based separation technologies<\/li>\n<li>CO2 purification and treatment<\/li>\n<li>Applications of artificial intelligence, machine learning, or other computational methods for the development of CO2 capture<\/li>\n<li>Design improvement to increase input flexibility and operability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>Projects must be advancing early-stage and pre-commercial technologies between <strong>Technology Readiness Level 2<\/strong>, \u201cTechnology concept and\/or application formulated\u201d and <strong>7<\/strong>, \u201cProduct or process prototype demonstration in an operational environment\u201d.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>If you fulfill these criteria, you can benefit from the program and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/government-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">obtain government funding<\/a><\/strong> to develop your innovative project.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/3\/files\/2022\/09\/Energy-Innovation-1.png\" alt=\"Energy Innovation Program - Carbon Capture\" class=\"wp-image-18106\" \/><\/figure>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><u>What can you expense within the framework of the funding?<\/u><\/h2>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>The following activity are eligible under the<strong> CCUS RD&amp;D Capture focus area:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h4>R&amp;D expenses:<\/h4>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Development, assessment, testing, and integration of novel and innovative equipment, software, and methodologies<\/li>\n<li>Pre-demonstration field trials<\/li>\n<li>Capacity building and training<\/li>\n<li>Assessments or characterization studies, including data compilations and syntheses, where there is a significant natural resource sectors-related knowledge gap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h4>Demonstration expenses:<\/h4>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Permanent installation of a pre-commercial technology<\/li>\n<li>Permanent modification of existing processes, equipment, or systems to accommodate an innovative technology or process<\/li>\n<li>Permanent installation of equipment and\/or infrastructure to support a demonstration or multiple demonstrations<\/li>\n<li>Associated costs for the engineering, design, and permitting of a permanent installation<\/li>\n<li>Operation, performance testing, and analysis of pre-commercial equipment in its intended environment to assess performance of an innovation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>Within the framework of these activities, employees\u2019 salaries; professional, scientific, technical, and contracting services; travel costs, capital expenditures; laboratory and field supplies, and materials; printing services and translation; data collection services; facility costs for seminars; licence fees and permits, will be considered eligible expenditures and will be <strong>reimbursed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/3\/files\/2022\/09\/Energy-Innovation.png\" alt=\"Energy Innovation Program\" class=\"wp-image-18107\" \/><\/figure>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><u>What are the technical and practical aspects of the program?<\/u><\/h2>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>To apply to the CCUS RD&amp;D Capture focus area<\/strong>, applicants must complete and submit their <strong>expression of interest (EIO) application to NRCan<\/strong> by <strong>October 3, 2022<\/strong>. Once your eligibility is confirmed, you need to gather all relevant information and to structure your <strong>full project proposal (FPP)<\/strong>. You can ask between <strong>500,000<\/strong> and up to<strong> $5 million<\/strong> depending on the activities you plan to undertake.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>We can help you completing the EIO and your FFP with the appropriate documents attached to ensure the best chance of success in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/government-grants\/\">fi<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/government-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/government-grants\/\">ancing<\/a><\/strong> of your project.
