{"id":1817,"date":"2022-08-18T14:44:23","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T14:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leyton.majjane.agency\/ca\/post\/pst-rebate-in-british-columbia\/"},"modified":"2026-07-26T17:02:41","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T15:02:41","slug":"pst-rebate-in-british-columbia","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/insights\/articles\/pst-rebate-in-british-columbia\/","title":{"rendered":"PST Rebate in British Columbia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>In order to address the impacts of COVID-19 outbreak on businesses, the&nbsp;BC Government added a <strong>temporary rebate <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/sales-tax-recovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">program<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/government-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> <\/a>to its directory of COVID incentives and introduced a provincial <em><strong>PST rebate program<\/strong><\/em>, which allows the refund (rebate) of <em><strong>PST <\/strong><\/em>paid during the period September 17th, 2020 and March 31st, 2022 on qualifying machinery and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Benefits like these may be instrumental in giving the companies not just a short-term recovery, but also a long-term growth in setting up or growing their businesses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Understanding the framework of the rebate program<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>This scheme is a \u201cscheme for all\u201d incorporated businesses, albeit with some exceptions like government corporations, sole-proprietors, NPOs, schools and hospitals;<\/li>\n<li>Rebate applies on <strong>qualifying <a href=\"https:\/\/leyton.com\/ca\/en\/manufacturing-invest-in-digital-transformation-through-rd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">machinery and equipment<\/a><\/strong>, though it covers items beyond just \u201cmachinery\u201d and \u201cequipment\u201d. To be eligible, such items should be considered capital assets, meaning thereby that <strong>asset may be capitalized for accounting purposes<\/strong> (for example, may be subject to depreciation);<\/li>\n<li>Determination of qualifying items is made by certain CCA (capital cost allowance) classes as defined under Income Tax Act, preferably including capital assets from Class 8, 10, 12, 16, 38, 43, 43.1, 43.2, 46, 50, 53, 54, and 55 (covers zero-emission vehicles);<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>PST <\/strong><\/em>paid on leases (both capital or operating leases) of qualifying machinery and equipment also qualifies for the rebate.Most<strong> non-consumable goods<\/strong> qualify under the rebate provided they are : Obtained substantially (more than 90 percent) for the purpose of gaining or producing income; Purchased or leased in B.C., brought into or received in B.C., brought into B.C. for temporary use, received from a related company, or received as a taxable gift, and;In the case of software taxed under Part 4 of the <em>Provincial Sales Tax Act (PSTA)<\/em>, purchased for use on or with a device ordinarily situated in B.C.<\/li>\n<li>To be eligible under the program, <em>PST <\/em>must be paid on these qualifying items during the period <strong>September 17th, 2020 and March 31st, 2022<\/strong>.
