Earlier this year, Leyton, a global innovation funding consultancy, hosted The Sustainable Start-up Challenge, an international competition in which start-ups from nine countries competed for the chance to win an exhibition booth at CES 2020. The five winners, all of whom will exhibit at the Eureka Park Marketplace in the Sands Expo Center from January 7-10, include:
GroPod from Heliponix (United States), an IoT hydroponic appliance with a seed pod subscription described as “Keurig for food”. Anyone can be a farmer, anywhere in the world, with its hardware and cloud software. Engineered to optimize plant growth, minimize energy consumption, reduce water usage, and enhance taste, the GroPod appliance is ideal for growing food indoors with its open-source outdoor modular farm technology. BeFC (France), an eco-friendly paper-based biofuel cell systems that use biological catalysts instead of chemical or expensive noble metal catalysts to convert natural substrates such as glucose and oxygen into electricity. Reinvented disposable electronics for sustainable and practical energy generation. (Booth # 51051)
Wiseair (Italy), a tech start-up that fights urban air pollution through a new model of smart city innovative technologies. Through its innovative product, Arianna [a smart balcony pot that measures air quality], individuals can actively fight urban air pollution and drastically improve the quality of their lives. (Booth # 51053)
Skriware (Poland), an educational ecosystem that focuses on teaching creative problem solving and critical thinking using 3D printing to create hands-on experiences. Focused on teaching STEAM skills its goal is to create education ready for modern challenges. (Booth # 51075)
FreshCam by RetroLabs (United States), a camera and application that make any refrigerator a smart fridge. From reducing waste to auto-ordering your favorite foods, FreshCam reduces food waste and saves consumers significant money. Through its custom application, users are given expiration notifications, recipe recommendations, and the ability to view their refrigerator in real-time. (Booth # 51055)
The winners have received an unrivaled opportunity to pitch their businesses to investors at the world’s largest innovation showcase, with more than 1,200 global start-ups and some of the world’s most influential investors. Additionally, the start-ups will receive training to pitch their businesses and up to $2,000 to cover Las Vegas logistics costs.
