The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has prompted governments around the world to enact a number of support measures for businesses. For Belgium, several measures were taken by both the federal and regional governments, and include the following:<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u2022Tax relief measures<\/strong>: deferment of taxes (payroll withholding tax, vat, corporation tax, real estate tax, etc.), exemption from late payment interests and cancellation of tax penalties;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Tax-exempt allowances<\/strong> for staff working from home;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Employers in critical sectors (e.g.: grocery retail, agriculture, <\/strong>ect.) can pay their employees up to 220 hours overtime work free of tax and social security contributions<\/strong> (between April 1 and June 30);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Administrative flexibility<\/strong> towards tax-exempt provisions for doubtful debts for clients affected by the health crisis;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 VAT exemption and deductibility of donations<\/strong> of medical and protective equipment to hospitals;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Temporary unemployment scheme<\/strong> (increased unemployment benefits);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Respite for employers\u2019 social security contributions<\/strong> for Q1 and Q2 of 2020;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Activity interruption grants (e.g.: 4,000.00 EUR and additional grants of 160.00 EUR per day in the Flemish Region, 5,000.00 EUR in the Walloon Region)<\/strong>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Incentive premiums<\/strong> for companies to keep employees;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Extension of existing government guarantee scheme<\/strong> for certain payment obligations (e.g.: social security contributions, vat debt, rent payments, salary payments, \u2026);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Relaxation of agreed time limits <\/strong>in grant agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
